More than 50 snowy-haired people with albinism visit Cairns this weekend for a major conference on the causes, challenges and achievements related to the misunderstood genetic condition.
With delegates and speakers coming from throughout Australia and New Zealand, the sixth Albinism Fellowship of Australia Biennial Conference will run from Friday, September 25, to Sunday, September 27, at the Hilton Cairns.
Albinism, a genetic condition caused by a lack of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes, is linked to pale skin, white hair and poor eyesight, often in the range of legal blindness. With an occurrence of one in 17,000, Australia has more than 1300 persons with albinism.
Persons with albinism work in all areas of Australian life. AFA members include an MP, a doctor, business owners and senior executives in the public sector. Former Adelaide man, Professor Paul Delaney, who has albinism, is today a leading astronomer in North America.
After a year of record growth, Australian managed cloud services provider UltraServe collected the Cloud Partner of the Year award at a major technology industry presentation last night.
UltraServe won the award at the 2015 ARN ICT Industry Awards from a competitive field that included Kloud Solutions, Data#3 and HubOne.
The win topped off a year of record growth for UltraServe, which operates globally from its head office in Pyrmont and a development centre on the NSW Central Coast. During the past 12 months, UltraServe has undergone significant expansion throughout Asia, the Americas and the UK.
Jonathan Ross, who represented at the ceremony last night, said it was an honour to accept the award on behalf of the team at UltraServe.
ERP specialist Evolution Business Systems (EBS) has boosted its success with Not For Profit businesses by fostering a user community among its Microsoft Dynamics NAV customers.
Held twice a year, the EBS and Microsoft Dynamics NAV User Group attracts finance leaders from EBS NFP customers including Australian Drug Foundation, Centacare Ballarat, St Vincent de Paul Society, Film Victoria, Melba Support Services and Comlink.
The group was established at the suggestion of Australian Drug Foundation CFO Daniel Langelaan, who envisioned a forum where finance and IT managers from NFP customers if EBS could share experiences of using the technology and learn how to do things better.
Mr. Langelaan said he had enjoyed working with EBS to develop the user group. “EBS has been very supportive and proactive in providing this forum,” he said.
I write with a sad heart that today is my last day as a flack for iiNet, a joyride that started nearly 15 years ago when I began helping Simon Hackett tell the story of Internode's national broadband rollout.
To be honest, I expected the axe to fall three years ago after iiNet acquired Internode, but I was graciously invited inside the iiNet tent to work alongside great colleagues including Anthony Fisk, Jane Humphries, Eve Jones, Suzi Jose and many more fine iiFolk.
However, TPG’s acquisition of iiNet last week means the organisation is no longer publicly listed, so has no need to engage with media beyond what can be managed in-house. That means adios John!
