Asia-Pacific information security company Vectra Corporation is positioned for stronger growth after a global technology company purchased a majority shareholding in the Australian-based business.

CDC Software, a subsidiary of CDC Corporation, which provides industry-specific enterprise software applications and business services, has taken a controlling stake in Vectra, a leading provider of information security consulting services, managed services and enterprise security solutions. 

The investment in Vectra provides a strategic fit with Praxa Limited, CDC Software's consulting services company in Australia; This significantly strengthens CDC Software’s position in the IT security and services market in the Asia-Pacific region.

Vectra’s founding managing director Chris Smerdon will continue to lead the company, which employs about 60 people at offices in Adelaide, Sydney and Singapore.  The current operational and staffing structure of the business will remain unchanged.

Mr. Smerdon said the move was necessary for Vectra to grow. “As the information security sector matures, it becomes a matter of get bigger or get beaten,” he said.

“CDC’s investment aligns Vectra with a global company, which provides both access to new markets in Asia and the US, as well as access to capital for strategic acquisitions in Australia. The Australian market has a large number of smaller players in this sector, so it is ripe for consolidation as companies scale up to supply the security needs of enterprise organisations. As a standalone business with the backing of a global technology giant, Vectra Corporation is ideally positioned to play a leading role in this consolidation.”
