Redflow Managing Director and CEO Tim HarrisAustralian energy storage company Redflow Limited (ASX: RFX) has secured preferred supplier status with Soul Energy to provide batteries for the first of a number of expected infrastructure projects throughout Australasia.

Headquartered in New Zealand, Soul Energy is a green energy systems integrator providing technology infrastructure solutions in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific. Its services include design, manufacturing, installation, support and monitoring systems.  Partnering with Redflow has enabled Soul Energy to focus on key verticals, including telecommunications, utilities, agriculture and commercial as well as off-grid communities.

The total potential requirement for the first customer is as many as 200 Redflow batteries, likely to commence with an initial small order as early as June 2019. Following this customer awarding the head contract to Soul Energy, Redflow will finalise commercial battery supply terms which will include project staging and delivery schedules. The financial implications of the opportunity for Redflow will become apparent after these details are settled.

 Soul Energy has worked closely with Redflow during the past six months to develop a standardised energy storage solution based on Redflow’s ZBM2 batteries which provide a compelling technical and commercial proposition for these sites.

Soul Energy Managing Director Mark Christensen said the company had chosen Redflow because of the unique benefits of its zinc-bromine flow batteries for remote deployment. “Redflow’s small zinc-bromine flow batteries provide a compelling long-lived alternative to lead-acid batteries, which need replacement every few years,” he said.

“Also, Redflow is a great company to work with because they combine deep technical and operational expertise in flow batteries with a willingness to work closely with us to design energy storage systems that meet our customer’s needs.”

Redflow Managing Director Tim Harris said Soul Energy’s selection of Redflow as its preferred battery partner further validated the company’s value across a number of sectors. “We are winning more of these initial deployments which are the key to accessing a huge market with growing and recurring demand,” he said.

This latest Redflow success builds on other recent announcements including the expansion into China, the Optus deployment of Redflow batteries at a mobile phone tower in the Daintree Rainforest and the sale of 32 ZBM2 batteries to South Africa to provide energy storage for mobile phone towers used by one of the country’s largest mobile network operators.
